Mechanisms of action
Nicotine exerts two effects, a stimulant effect exerted at the locus ceruleus and a reward effect in the limbic system.
Administration of nicotine causes release of acetylcholine, norepinephrine, dopamine, serotonine, vasopressin, beta-endorphin and ACTH.
