Mechanisms of action
By blocking the α2-adrenergic receptors and 5-HT2C receptors it enhances adrenergic and serotonergic neurotransmission, notably central 5-HT1A receptor mediated transmission in the dorsal raphe nucleus and hippocampus and dopamine and norepinephrine release in prefrontal cortex.
