selegiline
L-Deprenyl is 5mg of the active substance (R)-N,α-Dimethyl-N-2-propynyl-benzeneethanamine HCl

Selegiline is a selective, irreversible inhibitor of Type B monoamine oxidase.
Selegiline is metabolized into l-desmethylselegiline, l-methamphetamine, and l-amphetamine.
The pharmacological effects of l-deprenyl is multi-fold in its nature (dopamine sparing activity, neuroprotective and neuronal rescue effects), which cannot be explained solely by the irreversible MAO-B inhibitory action of the substance.

Chemical Structure
selegiline
Drug Class
Monoamine Oxidase B Inhibitors
Mechanisms of action
Selegiline can prolong the effects of dopamine in the brain by preventing its breakdown through seletively blocking MAO-B.
It also may prevent the removal of dopamine between nerve endings and enhance release of dopamine from nerve cells.
In larger doses (more than 20 mg/day), it loses its specificity for MAO-B and also inhibits MAO-A, which increases serotonin and norepinephrine levels in the brain.
