Isotretinoin is a retinoid derivative of vitamin A.

Isotretinoin is a retinoid, which when administered in pharmacologic dosages of 10mg/day inhibits sebaceous gland function and keratinization.

Off-label uses of low dosage (<30mg/Week) isotretinoin has been investigated to target skin aged related changes and photoaging.
Low dose Isotretinoin protects and increases collagen and elastin content partially restoring ECM(Extra Cellular Matrix) structure.
Junctions of the dermal layer are stabilized and dermal layers retain their youthful consistency.

The exact mechanism of action of isotretinoin is unknown.
